šŸš‡ The Plymouth Metro Proposal and What it Would Look Like

The Plymouth Metro is a long term proposal to introduce a light rail or tram style public transport system serving Plymouth and the surrounding area. The idea centres on creating a rapid transit link that would connect key parts of the city including the city centre, Derriford Hospital, the railway station, Plymouth University and major residential growth areas like Ivybridge, Plympton and Liskeard.

The proposal has been discussed in various forms over the years as part of wider transport and regeneration plans. It is intended to improve connectivity across the city, reduce traffic congestion, support new housing developments and encourage economic growth. By providing a reliable and sustainable alternative to car travel, the scheme aims to make it easier for people to move between employment, education and healthcare hubs.

If delivered, a Plymouth Metro could help reshape how people travel around the city. It could support regeneration in underused areas, increase investment confidence and contribute to climate goals by lowering emissions. However, it would require significant funding, infrastructure upgrades and long term political backing before becoming a reality.

A new initiative unique to Plymouth to help families support young readers is launching across five nursery settings in Plymouth.

Developed by the Schools Library Service, the ā€˜Let’s Read Together’ project has been created to give families simple, joyful ways to build early literacy skills at home.

The programme has been made possible through the Schools Library service who designed and delivered it uniquely, and secured an Arts Council England microgrant, with support from Libraries Connected.

The nurseries who will be participating in this project are:

  • Laira Green Primary School

  • Woodfield

  • Ham Drive

  • Plym Bridge

  • Ernesettle

A major milestone for business growth, skills development and sustainable investment within the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport was marked with the opening of four new high-quality, net zero and BREEAM Excellent employment units at Beaumont Way, Langage.

The opening event included a ribbon-cutting together with tree planting by local apprentices who worked on the build. Short talks were given by partners involved in delivering the development and supporting future occupiers.

⭐ Two of Plymouth’s Finest Restaurants retain Michelin Star

Two of Plymouth’s standout dining destinations are continuing to fly the flag for the city.

Acleaf at Boringdon Hall and Fletchers have both retained their Michelin stars, reaffirming their place among the very best restaurants in the country. In a sector where standards are relentlessly high and expectations even higher, maintaining a star speaks to consistency, creativity and serious attention to detail.
